Night Shift Workers & Breast Cancer Study

There is research demonstrating that working the night shift increases a woman’s breast cancer risk. Researchers from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University want to figure out WHY by studying breast tissue samples from women who have NOT had breast cancer. Their goal is to see if there are differences in the cells in the breast tissue of women who work day shifts and those who work night shifts.
The Army of Women has recruited for this study in the past, but we still need more night-shift workers to sign up so we can close recruitment! We are now enrolling women to attend a Komen Tissue Bank collection event at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, to donate tissue for this important study. Click to learn more!
This is an important study. One of my relatives was diagnosed with Breast Ca at age 40. She had been a night-shift worker for many years. She is a survivor (11 + years) and still works the night shift.
It is important and a really interesting study. They have just recently opened this study in Chicago, and it is being conducted elsewhere, too. It is a rare opportunity for women who do not have cancer to help us lock another piece of the puzzle. Hope your relative is doing well!
