Saturdays at around 12:30 the dog goes nuts. Barking and jumping and desperate to see who and what is going on just outside his window. The bell rings, the man goes away, and the dog finally calms down.
Saturdays at around 12:30 is our weekly CSA delivery.
CSAs are “community supported agriculture” programs; an opportunity for us to build a very personal connection to local-ish farms, offering steady, year-round buyers in exchange for literally, “fresh from the farm” seasonal produce. Technically speaking, we’re really not in a CSA. Ours, Abundant Harvest Organics, is a group of over a dozen small, organic farmers who join together to deliver our delicious weekly goodies This week we received:
- two kinds of grapes
- two kinds of tomatoes
- butternut squash
- fresh thyme
- hot peppers
As much as I love my delivery every week, it’s the FARMERS for whom I’m grateful today. Not only do we get an farm update with each delivery, letting us know exactly what’s happening on the farm, but each farmer has a profile online so we can learn more about them and their farmers, and videos about what’s happening in the field!
