It’s NaBloPoMo. And to be really honest, I had to google it. National Blog Posting Month. While my writing efforts are focused on a manuscript right now, I had a short little piece from writing class last night, so I’m throwing it up to see if it sticks. I will TRY to write daily, but we all know I probably won’t.
If you’re interested, there are some great resources out there. BlogHer and WordPress both have daily prompts and I’m sure there is much, much more! Look forward to poking around some new blogs as well!
From our path around the sun, to our rotation on our own axis. From pole to pole, and around the equator. The seasons circle; the trade winds circle; our blood circles. Right down to the patterns on the carpet.
As I circle back on my first cancer experience I am amazed at how much I learned, and how far I have come.
From those early days of being terrified, my imminent death certain, to my confidence that I will prevail against all odds this time.
From my first day in chemotherapy, bewildered and afraid, the unknown holding me in its clutches, to the “take no prisoners” way I greet all comers in the treatment center today.
From an unknown language to competency in cell biology and an understanding of angiogenesis and apoptosis.
From feeling small in the face of doctors to sitting on panels with them to discuss future directions in research.
From not knowing how I will every explain this to my young child, to partnering with him in advocacy on Capitol Hill — and helping others explain it to their young children.
From begin afraid to tell anyone, for fear that they would see me differently, to telling everyone in my effort to educate.
From embracing the pink party walks and fundraisers and shopping for the cure, to my utter disdain for all things sold on the back of my disease.
It all circles back – and with it comes growth. A knowing, an understanding…and a path to a richer, fuller, rounder life.
